Randolph Eyewear - for men AND women - the best glasses you will ever buy.
BEST DAMN SUNGLASSES IN THE WORLD! …in my opinion. I have owned three pair over 15 years, and only replace them when they are stolen or lost. p.s. I have smashed ‘em flat, and they bent back to almost perfect shape w/o breaking @ the solder joints.

When I was real little, I wanted very badly to be in the military. My grandparents found a pair of Randolph aviators in a parking lot (this was sometime in the early ’90s). They washed them, bent the frames back into shape and gave them to me. They were humongous on me then, but I have them to this day and they are my favorite pair of sunglasses. And you can’t beat getting them for free, even if it was from the asphalt of a parking lot!
To Jason: AFAIK American Optical is the originator the the more square-ish aviator frame, who introduced it in the late 40s for the military. I believe Ray-Ban introduced their ‘Caravan’ model in ’57 and these days RE is the largest (though not only) supplier of aviators (squared and teardrop) to the US military.
Thank you for this! Not only is it great to see something made in the USA, but I’ve always been fascinated by the way things are manufactured. I’ve been wishing there was a prime-time TV show that covered nothing but how things are made.
I love these. Naturally, polarized will cost you more. I just ordered a pair of Intruders as I left my last pair on a bench in the Virgin America terminal at LAX. i hope whoever finds them appreciates them.
I’ve been a longtime fan of the Randolf Aviators….Haven’t bought a pair in years and was shocked to hear they are going for $100 now! I used to get them from The Pilot Shop for around $60. Crazy. They are worth the $100 tho….classic “never-goes-out-of-style” shades that are well built and will last years if taken care of. Local too!
Randolph Engineering makes sunglasses for everyone from the U.S. military to Mad Men’s Don Draper. Randolph Engineering’s handmade Aviator, Concorde and Sportsman models are perennial favorites, built to exacting specifications in Randolph, Massachusetts. Accompanied by a lifetime guarantee, these sunglasses are the stylish workhorses of NASA astronauts, career pilots and people like designer Michael Bastian, who created a capsule collection of five frames for the label, or J. Crew. Founded in 1972 by Polish engineers Jan Waszkiewicz and Stanley Zaleski, Randolph Engineering started out as an tool and machinery manufacturer for the optical trade; in 1982, the Massachusetts-based company began producing polarized aviator sunglasses for the U.S. Air Force, then offered its wares to the general public. We're ever so glad they did.

Randolph Eyewear is by far the best quality made sunglasses on the market today. They look great on both men and women. I recommend the aviator for men, and the concorde frame for women. The P-3 frame, pictured above, is also a great frame for women. It can look very 70's or vintage style.

American Made Eyewear - Randolph Eyewear
When Don Draper of the television show ‘Mad Men’ puts on his sunglasses, he’s the epitome of cool. Those sunglasses are made right here in Randolph, Mass., at a company, appropriately named Randolph Engineering.
“Randolph is an American manufacturer of handcrafted American-made eyewear,” said Randolph Engineering CEO Peter Waszkiewicz. “We’re best known for our military aviation sunglasses and our American styling.”
Watch this video to see how Randolph Eyewear is made in the USA:

Since 1972, this company has been perfecting the art of the shades, bringing that attention to detail to the American Air Force. Their pilots wear these glasses, so you know they’re tough.
Pictured above: JD w/ clip. Michael Bastian Collection by Randolph Eyewear.
www.randolpheyewear.com
Waszkiewicz said, “We are noted to be the tank in the industry. Our glasses are made to military spec and we have a lifetime warranty on all our solder joints and we stand behind the product. “
They’ve won famous fans like Tom Cruise and John Travolta, but Ekene Ofodile, the Randolph SVP, Sales and Marketing, says there’s another celebrity he’d like to wear the brand.
“President Obama,” said Ofodile. “We believe the president should wear American-made sunglasses.

Since they come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and finishes, there’s plenty to pick from. We recommend the classic aviator, with 23-karet gold plating, it’s fit for a king or a president!

Randolph Eyewear - Frame of the Day!!! The Invader Olive
For over 35 years, Randolph Engineering has been meticulously handcrafting sunglasses for the U.S. military, Air Forces (worldwide), and those who appreciate distinct quality and craftsmanship. Their products are famed for detail and durability—two characteristics GG undeniably supports. One of our favorite designers, Michael Bastian, collaborated with Randolph Engineering to create this season’s Spring/Summer 2013 collection and we couldn’t be more pleased.
The invader olive is a great way to add a little color to any style. With a dark transparent olive frame made in Italy and a tan polarized frame, you are sure to impress with these.
The collection includes 15 variations on current and vintage Randolph Engineering models curated for perfection. The majority of frames are aviators styled with a modern MB twist. All frames are limited edition and made from the finest components found worldwide. The components of each piece are soldered in-house and hold a lifetime warranty, (we are talking about some serious hardware).
To add to the various aviators, designers included the ever fashionable and incredibly reliable wayfarer style. The 1950’s influenced frames are made in Italy using Mazzucchelli acetate and are offered in both sunglass and prescription options. Another favorite pair is the JD, a James Dean-inspired frame sold both with and without a 70’s-feel, detachable metal sunglass clip.
Whether you’re piloting an F18 fighter jet, driving your weekend sports car or strolling through the city, these quality lenses are essential for protecting your eyes and enhancing your vision. This season, Randolph and MB have delivered with the very finest in eyewear.
Not only are we major fans of every product in the look book, but so is the man behind the curtain. “I have been a huge fan of Randolph Eyewear sunglasses since I first discovered them in college. Since then, we’ve used them in every runway show and look book shoot since I started my designer line 5 years ago. So when my friends at Randolph approached me with the idea of a possible collaboration, I of course jumped at the opportunity. I feel their sunglasses are the real deal—perfectly made, perfectly masculine, and timeless.”- MB
Incredibly timeless, perfectly masculine.

Randolph Engineering, Inc.
Randolph Engineering, Inc., also known as RE, was founded in 1972 by two engineers, Jan Waszkiewicz and Stanley Zaleski. At inception, the company focused on designing and manufacturing optical tools and machinery for the trade. After a while the company turned its attention to making its own eyewear, using the tools and machinery designed and manufactured by the company itself.
In 1982, RE became the prime contractor for military-style aviation flight glasses for the U.S. Department of Defense. During this decade, RE solidified themselves as the lead vendor to various U.S. Government Agencies for sunglasses, ophthalmic eyewear, and certain niche optical products. By the early 1990’s, commercial lines of premium products became available: sunglasses, shooting eyewear and prescription frames. Today, Randolph Engineering, Inc. has evolved into a full service commercial business with highly skilled engineers and experienced staff. Manufacturing operations are performed at our headquarters located in Randolph, Massachusetts.

Randolph Engineering and Michael Bastian Bring Back the Clip-On Shades
BY TEOFILO KILLIP | FEB 7, 2013 | 2:33 PM | PERMALINK

Randolph Engineering and Michael Bastian have been giving us some awesome shades for the past couple seasons, and they’re back again. Along with re-working some classic shades, the collaboration designs two new styles for its newest drop. First the brand introduces its James Dean-inspired clip-on shades, which comes with detachable lenses when you want to wear them as prescription glasses. The second is the Rick Ross-esque Norwich shades, for the days when you want to feel like a bawse. If you are more into the classic shades, the square and tear drop aviators are also available.
